I appreciate when breweries take the time to experiment with beer and then share those creations with their customer base. When breweries experiment it tells us that the brewers are constantly challenging themselves to come up with new recipes and flavor combinations.
Currently, Equinox is hosting Spicy September month. They took their flagship beers and infused different spicy peppery flavors into them. Previously they had:
- Habanero Strawberry Vernal Hefeweizen
- Night Ryder Munich Dunkel with locally grown Purira Peppers and Palisade Peaches
This week it was Chocolate Poblano Eclipse Brown Ale and I could not turn that down. I wasn’t able to make it to the previous tappings but yesterday was a gorgeous day and I couldn’t pass up a bike ride down to Equinox.
There was plenty of roasted pepper notes right up front but surprisingly no heat in the taste. The chocolate was mild and oh so subtle.
Yesterday was warm and the sun was shining bright but the leaves turning colors tells us that fall is here. This was the perfect beer for yesterday’s adventure. It was light enough that it didn’t weight you down on a hot day but dark and moody enough that it complements the passing of the seasons.
I love when breweries do fun things with their beers and Equinox has definitely done that with their Spicy September month. A roasted light beer tasted glorious yesterday and that’s why it makes this week’s beer of the week!
