Beer of the Week: Odell Brewing’s Mountain Standard

Odell's Mountain Standard Double Black IPAOne of my favorite local seasonals was just released last weekend: Odell’s Mountain Standard. A delicious double black IPA full of smooth coffee notes with a little bitter bite at the end. Perfect for the weather we’ve been seeing lately here in Fort Collins;  gorgeous days full of clear blue skies and warmth from the sun, then slightly cooler as the evening hits.  My favorite way to have this beer (aside from sitting by the fire pit at Odell) is to sit in my backyard enjoying that last little bit of sun before it sets for the day.

The love most people have for IPAs is the love I have for black IPAs.  I want that roasty goodness and a little bit more malt feel, and this black IPA is top notch.

Mountain Standard is not only my favorite Odell seasonal, it also kicks off my growler season. I’ll be there every weekend getting my growler filled up with this beer.  No lie.  Last year I kicked off the release with a fill and I also ended its run with the last fill.  That’s right, I kicked the last keg of Mountain Standard with a growler fill.

Sorry I’m not sorry.

I already got one growler fill this week and I’ll probably be back for more.
